Steep-Section Retaining & Deck
Engineered retaining that reclaimed an unusable slope, topped with a wraparound deck for lake-side living.
Project photographyProject
The brief was simple to say and hard to do: make a steep, tree-covered slope liveable. The back of the section dropped away sharply, so nothing could happen until the ground was held.
We designed and consented an engineered timber-pole retaining wall, sorted the drainage behind it, then terraced the reclaimed level. On top went a wraparound macrocarpa deck that steps down with the land and frames the lake view.
What we did
- Engineered, consented pole retaining wall
- Sub-surface drainage and backfill
- Terraced and re-levelled the reclaimed ground
- Wraparound timber deck with steps and screening
Because retaining, drainage and deck were all handled by the same crew, there were no gaps between trades — and no finger-pointing when the weather turned.
